Christian Bautista spoke about being frequently asked about his plans of having a baby with his wife Kat Ramnani, with the singer describing it as an apparent Filipino “tradition.”

Bautista said this in an interview for “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Monday, Dec. 9, after the show host asked him, “Do you take offense when people ask you, ‘When is the baby’?”

“We don’t take offense kasi parang tradisyon na ‘yan ng Pilipino,” the singer said. “Ang lagi ko na lang sinasabi [ay] ‘I have a cat. I have a dog. Check niyo Instagram namin.'”

Bautista then shared his perspective on the notion of having a child to have a successful marriage.

“Ang pinakaimportante yata sa isang marriage ay isa’t isa muna—’yung partner mo muna first before ‘yung pressure na magkaroon ng isang anak,” he said.

(I think the most important part of a marriage is each other—your partner comes first before the pressure of having a child.)

“‘Yung iba sinasabi na focus on the anak; meron namang nagsasabi na focus on the marriage so that ‘yung anak makikita ang very very good example ng isang partnership so they will admire you more,” he continued. “So depende na lang kung saan sila pupunta.”

(Some would say that a couple should focus on their child, while others would say that couples should focus on their marriage to set a very good example of partnership that their children will admire. So, it depends on what they will choose.)

Bautista and Ramnani have been married for six years now. They tied the knot in Bali, Indonesia, in 2018.
